Why 1776 Matters More Today than 250 Years Ago

Sarah Gardner

On August 2nd, 1776, a piece of paper forever changed the course of humanity. Continually at odds with the British government North American colonists sought the right to form their own. The ability to freely function as they saw fit.

The founders understood the breadth of what they were doing. It was life or death. The difference between liberty and slavery.

In 2024 Americans often find themselves in a set of similar circumstances, facing operatives intent on reducing their rights under the guise of inclusion, tolerance, and love - fighting the battle the founders won for us almost 250 years ago.

As was stated in Trump’s 1776 Commission report,

“Americans are deeply divided about the meaning of their country, its history, and how it should be governed. This division is severe enough to call to mind the disagreements between the colonists and King George, and those between the Confederate and Union forces in the Civil War.”

Our founding principles face challenges in 2024 America.

Many people can’t explain what it means to be American. We’ve lost a sense of patriotism, pride, and societal awareness about our roots.

We face a crisis of identity, one that challenges the core principles on which this nation was founded: liberty, self-determination, and belief in the power of the individual.

Our nation’s founders created a masterfully crafted, divinely inspired, plan for the future—a plan that still holds effective today. This plan, founded in faith, reason, and hope, continues to provide the framework for a nation that strives to live up to its ideals.

As we look ahead it's time for a renewed spirit of patriotism. Optimism abounds.
